Festival des Cabanes

Building character, literally

We'll be honest, it has been a little while since this one landed on our desks, but some projects are simply too good not to show off, even fashionably late. The Festival des Cabanes is a wonderfully hands-on event held in a municipal park in Luxembourg City, where young people spend weeks designing and building their own cabins from scratch, working with wood, tools, and whatever materials the brief allows. Last edition alone saw 70 participants pour nearly 2,400 hours into the project, experimenting with more than 60 different materials. It's messy, ambitious, and genuinely inspiring, exactly the kind of energy we wanted our design work to capture.

We built the festival's identity from the ground up, starting with a bold, chunky typeface treatment for "Cabanes" that repeats and stacks across materials like a playful pattern full of different, hidden cabins, paired with a warm, slightly retro colour palette of rust reds, mustard yellows, and deep greens that feels handmade rather than corporate.

We also created a logo: a signpost pointing every which way, topped with a friendly little house shape, because that's actually what the festival is about, a meeting point where all sorts of creative directions collide. Around it, we developed set of simple line icons, tents, tools, plant pots, blueprints, rounds out the system and gives every touchpoint, from social posts to the festival programme, a consistent, joyful voice.

Beyond the branding, we also designed and built the festival's website, a map and the accompanying programme booklet, which documents each cabin, its builders, and the stories behind them. It's the kind of project where illustration, typography, and storytelling all get to work together. More playful than most institutional projects, our designers had a lot of fun working on this. We hope, it's also fun for you to look at.
